Every once in a while, you meet someone whose presence quietly leaves a lasting impression. For me, that person is Michael L. Tate.
I met Michael five years ago, and almost instantly, I could tell he was someone worth paying attention to. He spoke with conviction, thought carefully before responding, and had a rare blend of humility and strength. Even then, I told him that if he ever decided to run for public office again, I’d be one of the first to support him. That moment has arrived.
Michael is now running for Grantsville City Council, and while I don’t live in Grantsville myself, I do live in Utah—and I believe we all have a stake in lifting up good people when they take their first steps into public service. Michael is one of those good people.
At just 21 years old, Michael ran for mayor of his hometown. That in itself speaks volumes. It takes courage to throw your name into the ring, especially at a young age. He didn’t win the general election, but what he gained from that experience has shaped him into the kind of leader communities dream of having: one who learns, listens, and grows.
But this blog isn’t just about his past. It’s about what I see in his future.
Michael understands people. He knows how to connect—not just talk—and he does it with sincerity. He doesn’t chase attention or pretend to have all the answers. Instead, he asks real questions, builds real relationships, and takes real action. That’s a rare combination, and it’s something our cities—and our state—need more of.
His run for city council isn’t just about a seat on a local board. It’s a beginning. It’s the first visible chapter in what I believe will be a meaningful, impactful career in public service. And while Grantsville will benefit from his leadership now, I wouldn’t be surprised if one day all of Utah does too.
Supporting Michael isn’t about party lines or polished speeches. It’s about character. It’s about integrity. And it’s about believing in the kind of leadership that builds, rather than divides.
So whether you’re from Grantsville or anywhere else in this beautiful state, keep your eyes on Michael L. Tate. I have a feeling this is only the beginning—and I, for one, will be cheering him on every step of the way.
